Bare branches of winter are often disparaged by photographers. After a colorful spring, the green of summer and fireworks of autumn to the untrained I it may seem desolate. I see the Trees as sculptures of beautiful twisting form. Trunks leaning and twisted tell stories of past storms and their survival. Branches reach out to touch, embrace and sometimes support those who are close. New delicate fingerling limbs weave a mesh to shelter wintering Birds. On the Forest floor the subtle color of winter emerges as Fungi blossom from rotting stumps, old roots and fallen Trees. Wintering birds like the Yellow-bellied Sapsucker are easier to spot. Smaller Birds move a bit slower in the colder temperatures making it a perfect time for photographers to capture their images.
Close your eyes breathe and slowly raise your lids to see the new beauty unfolding in the winter Forest.
Love to ALL!
