“Lee-scovery” the action of Lee (me) seeing something for the first time

dis·cov·er·y /disˈkəvərē/Noun The action or process of discovering or being discovered.

Often when I tell someone I have discovered something on my hike it feels too broad.  It is in reality more of a “Lee-scovery” the action of Lee (me) seeing something for the first time. Yesterday I had two Lee-scoveries, both held hidden beauty until revealed in the images on my computer.  This pair of tiny wild Wildflowers made me realize I must not take for granted the beauty unseen by my own eyes.  I must allow my curiosity to collect the prospect of discovery even if none occurs.  It is better to be disappointed by nothing than to miss the beauty of what I found on this hike.  Each of the Wildflowers below were nestles in the lush greenery and appeared as white dots on the landscape.  Their true Nature and beauty was a glorious gift.

Earth Day Hike in Hot Springs National Park: 6 MTS, a Creek, a Pond and the Peaks

You may have noticed I am a day late posting this blog, I had a plan for Earth Day.  I would go the Ricks/Fordyce Pond and hike one section of Sunset Trail in Hot Springs National Park come home and post my blog.  Once I reached the Trail spur to the Fordyce Peaks I decide to take a side trip out to the peaks.  When I returned to the Sunset Trail I traveled until I was on Sugarloaf Mountain.  At that point I got into to my head to hike on all 6 Mountains so I headed to Indian, West, Music, Hot Springs and North Mountains.  It is National Park week so touching all areas of the park was a logical course change.  After some serious mountain hiking miles I returned home a bit later than originally intended.   It was a glorious Earth Day…

Usually you see a slide show at the top of my blog, today I wanted to show you the perfect light  as mentioned in my blog title.  Many would say this is the kind of day to stay in and edit my photographs, they would of course be wrong.  Dark days with a bit of mist and rain make the colors of the spring Forest shimmer with a rich vibrancy.   Also creatures who might otherwise be hiding on bright sunny days make themselves visible in the darker conditions.   Even tiny Wildflowers pop out on the trail as colors provide contrast to the grey sky.

In the dim light glorious Spiderwort glows in beautiful bouquets along the trail.  A juvenile Peregrine Falcon lands on a branch above me and calls to its parents.  Wild Wisteria winds through the Trees and its purple blossom clusters sway on the morning breeze.  Birds Foot Violets from pale pink to deep purple have pushed up through the dense ground cover, many now coated in a light mist.   Dogwood Blossom hover in the distance leading me forward in the grey.  Into the darkness and rain provided the perfect light to photograph Natures beauty.

Yesterday 2 bombs killed 3 and injured hundreds more during the Boston Marathon. Citizens and visitors were joyfully celebrating Patriots Day, attending baseball and running for themselves or others. It was a moment to step outside the struggle of everyday life. To celebrate being human in shared happiness. Prayers don’t seem enough and my heart feels shredded. Silently my tears fall this morning for a world fueled by violence.

I see and try to share the beauty of the world each day. I will not see the point of hatred or its violent means of expression. I will never understand how some try to express their discontent with the world at the end of a gun. I will never understand how some try to win their argument with a bomb. I do not want to hear the excuses. Put down your guns and bombs they will not solve or elevate the source of your pain. Whether the cause is domestic or international your violence will deafen us to your message. I pray for you as well, I pray your heart will listen to your Soul and you will find the words to express your pain instead of violent actions. I also pray you will be found before others are hurt or killed.

Dearest Friends, Whether you are a long time visitor to my site or a new arrival please take a silent stroll with me through the Forest… let your Soul lead your Heart into the sacred spaces of peace.

The art project that is my life on the trails

This was one of those days when I know I must have appeared to be [strange, odd, unusual, weird, loopy… choose one or all.] when seen by other hikers.  Sometimes I have the attention span of a terrier… look a Flower… oh a butterfly… new Leaves… WOW what a fantastic view…  and I admit it I have been known to say these things out loud, even when I am alone.  Other times I am the patient statue waiting 15 minutes for a butterfly allowing it to fly toward and around me while I am frozen in place.  If you saw me on this hike I hope you enjoyed the art project that is my life on the trails.
