I went on a journey to find Autumn Leaves (more about this in my next blog) on West Mountain and then kept hiking until I found a wonderful surprise on Music Mountain.  All along the mountain top ridge I was surrounded by colorful Wildflowers and Butterflies.  It was surreal after a summer drought devoid of these glorious gifts from Nature.  After my 8 mile hike I was still floating upon the joy of seeing the beauty of the Forest.

The Chinaberry Butterfly Trees

A mountain hike last Friday with my husband Rick included a surprise from Nature.  As we headed up the Tufa Terrace Trail  I noticed movement above us in a Chinaberry Tree. A colorful variety of Butterflies were feasting on the nectar warming in the sun.  A breeze blew gently as American Lady, Red Admiral and Eastern Tiger Swallowtail Butterflies soared between the Leaves and Blossoms.   As we moved further up the mountain we looked up to see a cluster of  Chinaberry Trees.  In the canopy of purple, pink and green was another lovely view of dancing and mating Butterflies.  Sometimes the Universe gives us a gift, a moment of grace and beauty.   We are always thankful to witness Nature’s artistry.

I write this still wrestling with the grief of loosing my Mother.  Today as I was hiking both in the morning and later in the evening with my Beloved Husband Rick I imagined Mom soaring with the birds or gliding on the gentle breezes with the Butterflies and Moths.  Nature has been gently healing my heart each day as I hike through her Forests.
