My beloved husband and I were heading back to our car after a hike in Hot Springs National Park. The quickest route was walking down the North Mountain Loop Road. Half way down my husband spotted Whitetail Deer crossing the road to reach new grass. We moved cautiously so as not to startle them. They were a special sight as they are part of a rare herd that is 3/4 the size/height of standard Whitetail Does.
I had slowly covered nearly half the distance to their position when a large white truck came speeding up over the horizon. I ran out into the middle of the road and held my hand up like a traffic cop. They stopped only a few yards from the group of four Does.
We are visitors in the homes (National and State Parks) of these beautiful beings. Please show them the courtesy they deserve. SLOW DOWN! Park roads are not a raceway… although this came as a surprise to a car that skidded trying to take a hairpin curve and hit a tree not far from this location two weeks ago.
Love to ALL!

This was such a pleasant surprise as the hike was wrapping up to a finish and there they were. It was also a wonderful surprise as this is not the type of deer we usually see and are a beautiful family. Glad you were able to stop the van with a signal. Thought we might see them again coming up the hill until a cyclist wizzed by and they were miles away. Gr8 shot Angel.
