HSNP Goat Rock Trail Chipmunk

I saw a blur at the side of the trail followed by a shuffling of Leaves.  When I reached the spot where it appeared I had seen movement nothing was there.  An old Tree stump sat among the Leaves and I leaned to the side to see if any being was hiding on the other side. Nothing.  As I moved forward to leave I noticed a head pop up and begin peeking at me from within the stump.

I took a few photos and began speaking with the lovely being peering at me. Every couple of seconds her head would rise up a bit further.

As I stepped away she vanished and I called out “stay safe”! She popped back up and stared at me LOL
