Happy Mothers Day, A Rainy Forest Paradise
Hot Springs National Park Tufa Terrace Wild Rose
Happy Mothers Day! It is a lovely rainy afternoon, later start than normal for me. When I awoke lightning filled the sky and I was not sure I would be able to get out in the Forest today.
As I enter the park stormy weather has barely passed, only the rain is still falling as the smaller creatures are cautiously seeking a late breakfast. Two sweet Chipmunks are hopping among the rocks in an afternoon that feels more like the twilight of an early morning. On the Tufa Terrace Wild Roses are blooming, the blossoms covered in the ever present rain. The pink is striking in the dull gray light and they appear to glow.
When I reach the Peak Trail I spot delicate daisies that have managed to stand tall after the storm. The Forest Trail is a lush glistening green, vibrant in against the dark sky. As I hike up the path I look down and see a fallen branch covered in Lichen and Moss. So many glorious shades of green are in the details that fill my sight.
I head over to the Hot Springs Mountain Trail where the Japanese Honeysuckle appears to be climbing across the Tree tops creating a new canopy. The Trail is fragrant from the white and yellow blossoms. I always smile when I reach the Honeysuckle Trail, it was an error of trail choices the first lead me to this place I now stand. Before me is a rustic rest hut I fondly think of as my wedding chapel. The skies are darkening and I decide it is best for me to take the Floral Trail to exit the park and head home.
The Floral Trail is glorious and I love it’s rugged and less manicured appearance. New foliage is appearing with each new rain storm and when the sun returns it will be exciting to see the changes. I am blessed to be in Nature’s embrace each day I hike within the park. As I head home a Sweet Squirrel bids me farewell as I stop to view the beautiful Magnolias at the park entrance.
